How Much Does Water Heater Installation Cost in Bali?

This is the question we're asked more than any other, and the honest answer is: it depends on the type of heater, the state of your existing wiring and plumbing, and whether you supply the unit or we do. Below is a realistic 2026 breakdown of what water heater installation actually costs in Bali, based on the jobs we do every week. Prices are in Indonesian Rupiah (IDR), and throughout we separate labour from the unit cost, because that's how the real bill works.

Labour Prices at a Glance

These are our starting labour prices โ€” the cost of the work itself, before the heater unit and any extra materials:

  • Instant / tankless heater install: from IDR 400,000 (1โ€“2 hours)
  • Electric storage heater install: from IDR 700,000 (2โ€“3 hours)
  • Solar water heater install: from IDR 2,500,000 (half to full day)
  • Villa / central system: from IDR 3,500,000 (scales with bathrooms)
  • Diagnosis / call-out: from IDR 300,000
  • Thermostat replacement: from IDR 250,000
  • Heating element replacement: from IDR 350,000
  • Pressure-relief valve: from IDR 200,000

What the Unit Itself Costs

The heater unit is separate from labour, and the range is wide. A basic instant electric heater can cost as little as IDR 300,000โ€“700,000. A quality electric storage tank (Ariston or Wika, 30โ€“50L) typically runs IDR 800,000โ€“1,500,000, with 80L and premium brands higher. A full solar system with panels and tank usually lands between IDR 4,000,000 and 8,000,000 depending on size. We're happy to source the unit for you at fair market price, or install one you've already bought โ€” either way you see the figure before we start.

What Changes the Price

Two installs of the same heater can cost quite different amounts, and it comes down to a few things:

  • New circuit vs existing: a straight swap on existing wiring is cheap; running a new dedicated circuit from the panel adds labour and cable cost.
  • Pipework: reusing existing pipes is quick; new runs to a new location take longer.
  • Access: a heater tucked behind tiling, up on a roof, or down a long Bukit driveway takes more time.
  • Pressure: a property needing a booster pump for an instant heater adds the pump and its fitting.
  • Condition: corroded old connections that need re-making, or an undersized circuit that should be upgraded.

Repair vs Replacement Cost

If your heater has failed, repair is usually far cheaper than replacement โ€” provided the tank itself isn't leaking. A typical element or thermostat fix is IDR 250,000โ€“600,000 all-in including the part, versus a full replacement of unit plus install. The exception is a corroded, leaking tank: that can't be reliably sealed, so replacement is the honest call. We always tell you which makes sense before doing any work โ€” read more in our guide to why a water heater stops working in Bali.

How to Get the Best Value

The cheapest route is often to buy the unit yourself and have us do the install and connection โ€” you avoid any markup on the unit and still get a safe, warrantied installation. The most expensive route, ironically, is buying the cheapest possible heater and fitting it badly: undersized units and bad wiring fail fast in Bali's climate, and you end up paying twice. Spend on getting the install right and on a unit sized correctly for your bathrooms, and your hot water will simply work for years.
